Welcome to Apraxia Awareness Month!

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Awareness Month! We look forward to Creating Community Connections not only throughout the month of May but each and every day! 25 years ago, Apraxia Kids began as an idea from 3 moms looking to build community connections searching for answers and support for their Apraxia Stars. 25 years later, and with 3 new Apraxia moms on our staff team, Apraxia Kids remains the leading organization focused on childhood apraxia of speech, committed to connecting with our professionals, caregivers, and Apraxia Stars globally.

Apraxia Awareness Month is a time to celebrate and raise awareness not only about CAS but also Apraxia Kids. This month will be filled with education, resources, and of course, opportunities to create connections with friends, new and old. Throughout the month, we will share a variety of ways to participate. Below are a few things that we have planned for the month:

  • Weekly Connection Blogs shared by members of our community – You will be inspired to get involved seeing how Apraxia Kids brings both professionals and families together. You might even learn something new!
  • Check out our NEW Apraxia Kids Store for items to wear throughout the month of May and year-round! Wearing Apraxia Kids apparel is the easiest way to start a conversation – you never know who you will connect with!
  • Proclamations have been filed at the state and local levels, spreading awareness across the US and Canada. Interested in filing a proclamation? Click here for more details. So far we have 35 states represented we would love to fill in the whole map!
  • Back by popular demand, we will be adding videos to our You Asked, We Answered sereies where SLPs with advanced training and expertise on childhood apraxia of speech and caregivers answer frequently asked questions from our support groups on topics such as IEPs, therapy, our National Conference, and so much more. New this year- we have a much anticipated video featuring Apraxia Stars!
  • Walk Connection – Throughout the month of May, our team will be sharing information about the Walk for Apraxia and how you can get involved. The Walk for Apraxia is an exciting event to celebrate our Apraxia Stars and we invite you to register for FREE to join your local community. We even have a special video series launching this month with interviews from some of our Walk families!
  • SLP Appreciation Day On May 18th, we will be honoring our SLPs that spend countless hours working with our Apraxia Stars. We are so grateful for their commitment to helping all of our stars find their voice.
  • The official Apraxia Awareness Calendar can be used daily to spread awareness to our entire community.

Apraxia Kids Day of Giving is May 14th. We hope you will consider supporting us as we work to continue creating innovative resources for our community, such as our Parent Portal, IEP Road Map, and new Insurance Advocacy Guide. 75% of our budget comes from individuals like you! Every dollar raised makes an impact, furthering the mission of Apraxia Kids.

During the month of May, I encourage each of you to raise your voice to increase awareness about CAS and Apraxia Kids. By doing so, we will continue to create community connections so that new parents looking for answers after receiving a diagnosis find our organization and a supportive network to help them on their journey. Here’s to a great Awareness Month!!

Warmest Regards,
