If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to raise awareness of childhood apraxia of speech in your community, here is your chance! File a proclamation for your state, county, or city!
A proclamation is a public or official announcement issued by your local government. Our community files proclamations every year to make May 14th Apraxia Awareness Day!
“What do I have to do to file a proclamation?”
In order to file a proclamation, usually a volunteer will fill out an online form, or write a letter to their local representative. Sometimes it requires searching online to find the contact information for your local government leader. You’ll send them a letter explaining why you are raising awareness and an example proclamation. Don’t worry, we’ll provide you with tools and examples to accomplish this!
Sometimes the actual proclamation document will be mailed to you. If that’s the case, we’d love for you to send a photo to us to share with our whole community!
Other times, you might be offered the opportunity to meet with your local government leader to witness the proclamation being signed in person. This is a great way to tell your local government about what children with apraxia face, and a cool way to show your Apraxia Star appreciation! If you are afforded this opportunity, we can help you promote it so that all families and professionals in your area who are affected by apraxia of speech can attend. The more people helping to raise awareness, the better!
