September 2023 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

It is hard to believe our kids are back in school, and fall is just a few short weeks away. As we kick off the month of September, we are thrilled to share information about the programs and services offered by Apraxia Kids.

The Walk for Apraxia is in full swing with 63 in-person Walk events across North America this fall. With September being Friendship Month, you can do your part by inviting all of your friends to join you on Walk day! Registering for your local Walk is easy and, of course, FREE. The Walk connects our families within the community providing support to one another, all while celebrating our Apraxia Stars who work so hard throughout the year.

We continue to remain inspired by all of the stories we are receiving for Find Hope Give Hope. We encourage you to read the stories shared by our apraxia community and that you will feel inspired and decide to share your own unique story!

With our kids heading back to the classroom this month, Apraxia Kids recognizes the need for resources focused on back to school and IEPs. Be sure to check out our Classroom Kit that helps a child’s classmates understand apraxia and how they can help. Our new IEP Roadmap will help families navigate school based services so their child can receive appropriate services. Look for an appropriate children’s book that discusses apraxia to read to your child’s class or to suggest for your school’s library.

Our call for papers to present at our annual National Conference taking place July 11-13, 2024, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will open November 1, 2023. The National Conference is the only major conference on the speech, language, learning, and life needs of children with apraxia. Those interested in applying to speak are encouraged to visit our website for additional details.

And finally, Speech Tablets for Apraxia applications will open on September 11, 2023. Each year, Apraxia Kids awards speech tablets to children and families in need throughout the USA and Canada. Children with apraxia can use these speech tablets for speech practice and/or as a speech-generating device. If your family is in need of a speech tablet, we encourage you to apply. If you know of someone who would benefit from this program, please share the link with them.

Apraxia Kids would not be able to do the things that we do without the support of each of you, our friends! As our friend, we hope that you will join us at a local Walk this fall, and share our resources and website along with our new IEP Roadmap with families in your community who are on an apraxia journey.

Thank you for your commitment to Apraxia Kids. Your continued support makes a significant impact on the work that we do each and every day, giving hope to our community.
