April 2024 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

We have been busy preparing for Apraxia Awareness Month in May and are so excited to share that our theme for this year is “We Are Apraxia Kids”! What does this mean? It means we want to celebrate everyone who is a part of our Apraxia Kids community, from SLPs, staff, volunteers, family, and of course our Apraxia Stars! Thank you for being a big part of the “WE”.

We have many ways you can already start celebrating Apraxia Awareness Month. This year we have created a social media profile frame to help you spread awareness with your own network. You can request one here and a staff member will send you an email with your custom profile picture! Request yours now so you can be ready for May 1st!

Now is also the time to file a proclamation for your state, providence, county, or city! A proclamation is a public or official announcement issued by your local government. Our community files proclamations every year to make May 14th Apraxia Awareness Day. Most areas require a few weeks to process so be sure to file yours today!

Save the date for May 14th, Apraxia Awareness Day and also our Day of Giving! Every year we ask our community to make a donation to Apraxia Kids so that we can continue our mission to bring new resources to our apraxia community and help support children with apraxia of speech! Don’t want to wait? Donate today!

Registration is open for the 2024 National Conference in our hometown of Pittsburgh, PA! This unique learning opportunity provides evidence-based education on treatment, assessment, diagnosis, and co-occurring disorders related to various areas of development. This year we will again be offering a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person. We encourage you to check out our line-up of sessions and speakers and register today!

Registration is also open for the Walk for Apraxia! Now is the perfect time to sign up and share your fundraising page with friends and family to help raise awareness in May. We are so excited to celebrate all of our Apraxia Stars with these community events. We are still looking for volunteers to help plan some of our Walks, so if you have been looking for a way to get involved please fill out this survey! We continue to look for sponsors to support our local Walk events. If you have a business or know someone that does, check out our sponsorship package!

We are so grateful for all of our amazing donors that help support our mission. Did you know 89% of all donations goes directly to funding programs, services and of course developing new resources? Thanks to generous donors like yourself, we have been able to launch new resources such as the IEP Roadmap and our newest resource the Insurance Advocacy Guide. Consider making a donation today to help us continue creating these innovative resources. We cannot do it without the support of our community!

Best,
