Describe treatment approach used: The programs I use in therapy are the Let’s Start Talking (LST)™ and Let’s Talk Clearly (LTC)™ Programs developed by Dr. Megan Hodge at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The overall goal is for the child to increase functional communication by increasing how much others understand, as well as increasing the acceptability of the child’s overall communication within social contexts. In addition, I work with schools regarding literacy supports (reading, spelling, writing) for this population of children (providing professional development for pre-K and Kindergarten as well as elementary teachers and administration) to develop/provide appropriate support paths for this population of students within their school system.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: The overall goal for parents is to provide them with techniques, skills and confidence to support their child’s speech skill development and spoken language development. Parents attend twice per week of therapy (including assessments). I provide parent/teacher/learning team information sessions. Parents select their own goals and work in collaboration with the SLP to achieve these goals by the end of the 12- week treatment block. I support school team collaboration (goals, report writing, consultation regarding educational coding, literacy supports, referring/advocating for additional educational-based testing, etc.)
I have the school team and parents complete various questionnaires throughout the treatment block.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? I am an advocate for effective and intensive services to school divisions and service providers. I attend Apraxia Kids conferences (San Diego, 2017) and participate in Apraxia Kids webinars. I regularly attend Apraxia-based professional development sessions. I follow Apraxia kids and our local CAS group on social media. I also advocate for funding for families. I routinely collaborate and consult with 'local' Apraxia Kids Boot Camp graduates
