I follow the treatment and assessment frameworks developed by Dr. Megan Hodge at the University of Alberta. These include the Let’s Start Talking Program, Let’s Talk Clearly Program, and Let’s Talk More Program. I also have completed Apraxia Kids Bootcamp Training (2021). My focus is to improve speech intelligibility, acceptability, and overall academic success for students. In addition to specializing in the treatment and assessment of children with severe speech disorders, I also specialize in language and literacy skill acquisition for this population of students. For school-aged children, the focus of intervention can be to develop both spoken and written language skills. Consultation and professional development to school staff regarding evidence-based literacy supports is available.
Sessions are scheduled to debrief assessment results, to create goals, and to gather feedback regarding progress. Intervention typically occurs in treatment blocks (12-14 weeks) and throughout that period of time, parents are “trained” to learn how to help their child become better understood in a variety of contexts. Parents (or a caregiver) are typically required to attend all therapy sessions. School consults are available and can be included. These consults typically are to help design and implement support plans (IPP goals) in planning for student success. Typically, this involves coordinating services for language intervention, reading/writing/spelling intervention, and speech intervention.
