My therapy is individualized to each child and focuses on helping them learn and practice the movements needed for speech. I often compare it to learning a new dance—the child knows what they want to say, but their brain has difficulty planning and coordinating the sequence of movements needed to say it clearly and consistently. We practice meaningful words and phrases many times with the support and cues the child needs, and I gradually reduce those cues as the movement becomes easier and more independent. I try to keep practice engaging, positive, and functional to the child’s everyday life.
