A provide a family-centered approach to therapy. I encourage parents and siblings be involved in the therapy process. We focus on movements between phonemes and practicing each sequence several times in the therapy session. Functionality is also very important. Parents are asked what words they would like the child to be able to say, what words they may need in the school setting, and what the interests of the child are. Working on these words gives the child and parents motivation and helps with improving intelligibility.
Apraxia has been a passion for me for several years. I work in the school system where I provide information to parents and teachers. I also own a private practice and provide seminars for parents and teachers in all areas of communication.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the therapy sessions by watching techniques, providing feedback, providing encouragement, practicing at home, and asking questions.
I am currently on the assistive technology team with my school system. I complete AAC evaluations and provide recommendations. I have experience with using PECS, Snap + Core, Proloquo2go, LAMP, and Go Talk with children with CAS. I also implement basic sign language.
