I follow Dr. Edythe Strand's Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC) approach - 5 days/week, 30 minutes/day for 4-6 week sessions each.
I have worked with children with CAS in the educational and medical environment. Due to frustration with the options available for therapy, I attended Dr. Strand's continuing education courses and then started the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Clinic through the department of pediatrics at the University of Utah.
Parents attend each therapy session and observe the dynamic process involved in treatment. As words become automatic, parents are encouraged to elicit the target during structured play/activities. Parents are also involved in the target choices based on ability and need.
I use whatever the child is willing to participate in, whether it be sign, picture exchange or devices.
