Myofunctional therapy is neuromuscular re-education training for breathing, speaking, and eating. Our speech pathologists specialize in muscle based therapy to address muscle imbalances of the mouth associated with tongue and lip ties, TMJ Disorder, sleep breathing disorders, tongue thrust, swallowing disorders, and speech sound disorders. They work collaboratively with your dentist, medical professionals, and bodyworkers to provide optimal care for your treatment goals.
I co-developed a program to treat apraxia called Vowel Cueing for Expressive Language. We have trained SLPs, SLP-Assistants, and other professionals to use this program. I am also member of the Apraxia Kids Facebook page.
I encourage our parents to participate in the session as homework is provided after each session. I coach parents during our sessions and point out communication attempts that may be otherwise unintelligible to the untrained ear. The expectation is that short practices several times a day will help generalize practice at home in order to build to the next level.
I've used basic sign language as a building block to verbal language. I've used high tech AAC for children like iPad and proloq2go and dynovox for children and adults.
