I am consistently using Kaufman Praxis Cards, Kaufman workbook, Word Filps, NAES Apraxia Apps, Mini Apraxia Photo Cards and Apraxia Workbooks to target sound patterns. I work with parents to break consistently used words into functional words for getting needs met and pair many of my target cards with home activities as repetition is vital to success for a child with CAS.
I am on several Facebook Page Groups and participated in the Apraxia Walk. I also attend conferences and follow current information on CAS.
Parents are welcomed to be an active part of the therapy session and home practice activities are always sent with reinforcers for repetition at home. My parents understand how important repetition of sound combinations is and how this helps build muscle motor memory. Parents also give me a list of frequently used words that their child has difficulty with and we work on functional breakdown for these.
I have used AAC as a connector to help with speech development not to replace speech development. I have worked with Proloquo2go in its simplest and most complex form and see that this really helps bridge the gap for children who have difficulty with communicating their needs.
