Therapy programs are individualized for each child. Young children with CAS are engaged in opportunities to work on motor planning with target words and sounds that would help them communicate in everyday life. For example, it may be important for that child to work on producing words that they might use frequently such as yes, no, go, stop, me. An older child might benefit from working on the prosody of speech or multisyllabic words that are used in the classroom.
I have practiced as a pediatric speech pathologist for the past seven years. I have a passion for treating children with apraxia of speech.
Parents are welcome to sit in on sessions and observe therapy directly. Parents are also aware of treatment objectives and how to continue practicing at home.
AAC can be introduced and used to help supplement a child's verbal productions to help them be more effective communicators with those around them.
