Therapy for childhood apraxia of speech is active, supportive, and highly individualized. I use a motor-based approach called DTTC (Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing), which helps children practice saying words and phrases through repeated, supported attempts with the right amount of cueing. Sessions focus on helping your child plan and produce speech movements more accurately, starting with simple, meaningful words and building gradually. For younger children who are not yet ready for teletherapy, I also offer parent coaching, so you can learn practical strategies to support speech practice during play and daily routines at home.
Parents are a key part of therapy. I show you the exact words, cues, and practice style we are using, and how to carry this over at home during play, meals, dressing, bath time, and transitions. You learn how to model targets, pause, support your child’s attempts, and keep practice short, positive, and realistic.
I use both low-tech and high-tech AAC with children with CAS to support communication while speech is developing. I choose highly relevant pictures the child can use right away for real needs and routines. These visuals are simple, functional, and easy for parents to access at home.
