In my treatment, I use activities that incorporate household objects and simple toys to create activities that are fun and engaging, while also making sure that children get plenty of practice with their speech sounds. I use a variA variety of prompts and cues are used to facilitate motor learning, such as tactile cues and fading dynamic temporal cueing, depending on the child's learning style, stimulability to prompts and cues, and severity of CAS. Frequent feedback is given and I am constantly reassessing a child’s needs to ensure we are making continuous progress.
In the past, and currently, I have helped parents to advocate for appropriate services for their children through early intervention and school aged services. I contribute to parenting blogs and hold free in-person (and now digital) workshops for parents.
Parents are always involved in therapeutic sessions. As the majority of my therapy takes place in the family home, parents are present and able to observe treatment and receive feedback on how to incorporate techniques into daily life. They also assist in selection of target vocabulary to make therapy functional for each child.
Usually my students are able to develop functional communication without the need for AAC. I have some experience assisting families to choose appropriate devices for children, and have helped to create a functional communication board for children.
