I use a motor-based approach to treating CAS developed by Dr. Edy Strand, called Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC). DTTC is a systematic approach to treating CAS using functional targets that are selected using assessment data based on your child's specific speech production. I always incorporate play and reinforcers between blocks of practice using toys and games that are child-selected.
I am currently a treating clinician and researcher in the NYU Motor Speech Lab under the supervision of Dr. Maria Grigos, studying the impact of caregiver involvement during the implementation of DTTC treatment for children with CAS.
I am open to different models of caregiver involvement based on what works best for the individual family. Parents and caregivers are invited to watch my sessions if they would like and I am happy to answer questions. I am happy to implement a home program and reduce number of sessions that I come each week, or increase frequency of my visits and ask for minimal home practice with caregivers.
I have used low tech AAC for children with severe CAS in order to decrease frustration and increase communication while targeting speech production.
