- Rainbow Speech Therapy and Consultation
I do not believe one size fits all presentations of apraxia. I do, however, use shaping approaches to deconstruct and construct words so that the client is able to manage them with more success. I then scaffold the complexity and move directly into functional vocabulary. I am also PROMPT trained and find that some children need the tactile cueing. Further, I supplement all therapy with augmentative communication. It can be as basic as PECS or the app ProLoQuo.
I give basic parent awareness education. I advocate for students in school not only for their speech production needs but their language needs too.
The parents are partners in their child's treatment plan. They are involved in each session and educated as to how to approach their child's utterances. They are used as informants and observers as to their child's progress and planning. Parents are hands on and take part in therapy when the children are younger so there is appropriate carry over,
I have used PECS and ProLoQuo to supplement therapy. I have also used text to speech Verbally with one particular student who preferred to type all his words.
