It is individualized to the needs of the child. At the minimum of two sessions a week with high number of practice on all targets. Increased sound consonant inventory and quickly move to CV combinations and patterns. Visual cues and physical assistance are also a part of treatment sessions. The sessions move to other combinations including VC, CVC, VCV, CVCV, etc. Introduce core vocabulary as appropriate to sound inventory to promote functional use and generalization.
I continue to take continuing education courses, in service with local day cares and professionals that work with children. Also close collaboration with other therapists and ABA therapists at our clinic.
They parents participate in therapy sessions and send home activities as the child is demonstrating high performance within therapy sessions.
I have used it for early communication with children that have not begun to talk yet. I have also used it for children who's communication needs are greater then their level of verbal output (children that are verbal but are unable to be understood or produce unpracticed words or formulate intelligible sentences).
