Therapy approach would include the following: -establish the child's motivators and reinforcement -choose targets on the basis of the child's repertoire of consonants and vowels -provide and fade cues as child becomes more sufficient in production -provide corrections before failure to utilize error-less teaching principles -provide mass practice to distributed practice and block practice to random -within session mix and vary tasks to avoid over-generalization -encourage parents and caregivers to use play in the natural environments that will include target vocabulary and build language functionality with coaching if necessary -ensure retention to maintain motor plans of words to functional expressive language
Participation in Apraxia walks and in services at schools.
Parents are encouraged to watch sessions from an observation room; provided handouts of the specific target words, cueing techniques/strategies; coached through play if needed; and encouraged to ask questions after observing a session.
