I use a combination of treatment approaches while working with children with CAS. I am most familiar and have experience using DTTC, Kaufman, and Multisensory approaches. I also use Core Vocabulary for students that have limited verbal abilities.
In the summer of 2016, I participated in the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Intensive Training Institute through Apraxia Kids. I have worked with many families and have worked diligently and advocated for their loved ones diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech.
Parents play a vital role in planning therapy and implementing home programs throughout the course of therapy. Parents are encouraged to listen in during therapy. After each session, the clinician gives detailed feedback about the child’s progress and how to implement strategies learned during the session into the home environment. Parents are always provided targeted words and phrases to practice at home with their child to improve overall functional communication.
