Overall Treatment Approach:

Play is salient and how children learn. I provide meaningful, play-based therapy with a focus on word target selection to support a child with CAS so that they are an active participant during play gaining access to high repetition without knowing they are working on motor planning and movements. I am also a strong advocate for the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication while simultaneously targeting motor planning and sequencing so that your child is able to communicate to the best of their ability and that frustration with communication is limited.

Parent Involvement:

With your support, you as parents will be an active partner in selection of therapy targets that are meaningful vocabulary to your child's everyday needs, wants, play and interaction through communication.

AAC Use/Implementation Expertise:

For children with CAS, I use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to supplement verbal communication during a communication breakdown while targeting and providing treatment for their motor planning and sequencing. AAC includes anything from American Sign Language, gestures, core boards, or the use of high-tech speech-generating device. If your child is attempting to sequence the movements for a word, phrase or message and a communication partner is unable to understand them, with the support of AAC they have an alternative method to get their IMPORTANT message across.
