I use visual cards as speech sounds cues during play based therapy to target fun sound effects (environmental sounds, animal sounds, etc) that are motivating to the child. We work on learning how to combine sounds in the child’s inventory using visual models and multi sensory cues to learn movements for speech, acquire new sounds, and put these sounds into highly occurring words for the child to add to their inventory of mastered words. We then start to use these words to build word combinations, phrases, and sentences while maintaining appropriate movement and sequencing of sounds to produce intelligible speech.
Trying to increase my involvement by finding a community of specialists to get to know and refer patients to. I am hoping to provide education on how AAC and CAS treatment can work together to meet a child’s goals and communication needs.
Parents help select target words they feel would b beneficial for their child. We work on training the parent to feel comfortable cueing the child to produce target word in everyday natural occurrences at home and in the community.
