I make sure I have a full inventory of sound and create a list of functional target words that are within the child's inventory. I do high repetitions of the words in therapy and do parent education. Multisensory approach with visuals and tactile cues if needed and simultaneous production. I choose target words based on sounds that the child is able to produce. I don't remember putting that they'd do vowels in isolation- I don't have that as goals. I work on words that are motivating and functional for the child so they are able to have success and begin communicating efficiently. During sessions, I carryout goals by choosing activities that will elicit a high production of words while being motivating and functional. I choose play based activities and often follow a child's lead as to what they are interested in. I make sure a child is looking towards me and do simultaneous production of targets with them.
I have participated in the Walk for Apraxia and have helped guide parents through treatment process. I can increase my involvement by helping others be aware of CAS and how to help!
Parents help with determining target words that are functional for the child and help them think of ways they can help target this in the home to generalize.
I have helped get several children AAC devices while targeting both speech and AAC. I model while vocalizing and help the child communicate in any way.
