I determine what they can do and build from there. Intensive repetitions of stimulable sounds in different combinations of isolation, and syllable movements, into words and phrases as indicated. I include the parents so I can model how to stimulate the sounds and give the parents some practice activities to do at home. Use of the VisiPitch to provide biofeedback if indicated.
I have had probably 15 very severe CAS students that I have worked with over the course of my 31 years of being an SLP. We opened True Potential in 2014, and I find that suddenly we are getting many inquiries about CAS treatment.
I have parents come into the session for the last 10 minutes, so we can model and share what we have accomplished and so that I can convey what I would like for them to do at home, and so the parent can have an opportunity to express areas of concern or need, and how practice is going at home.
I have used communication books, iPad apps, several different small electronic communication devices for CAS kids with a need.
