Therapy programming is designed to meet each individual client's needs. Based upon your child's evaluation, a recommendation will be made for session length and frequency. Goals will be selected based upon what skills your child currently has and how we can build upon their current skills to improve their communicative ability. Regardless of what goals your child is working on, therapy will focus on accurate movement of the oral structures when dealing with CAS. Therapy will be fun and functional!
I have been practicing as a speech therapist since 2018. I have treated several clients with apraxia in my experience in the school system and in the clinical setting. I am always looking for continuing education opportunities to make sure my skills are up to date with the current literature.
Parents are more than welcome to attend therapy sessions. Updates and goals will be shared after each treatment session, and parents will be provided with materials to practice at home in order to promote generalization and progress.
I have used both high tech and low tech AAC for children with CAS. Several children use sign language, gestures, PECS, and pointing to communicate, but I typically prefer to get a speech generating device in the hands of my clients as soon as possible to provide them with a much more robust communication system.
