My diagnostic and multi-sensory treatment approach address speech motor sequencing breakdowns and development of functional goals. After selecting two to three priorities (phonatory, mandibular, labial, lingual, sequenced, prosody) movements, I pick sound targets and create a functional lexicon for mass practice. I utilize my extensive apraxia training by modeling touch cues, tactile feedbacks, PROMPTs, Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC), and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) supports. Goals are updated accordingly to ensure progression and generalization. Parents/caregivers can expect ongoing education and involvement in treatment sessions to increase competency for homework practice.
I am currently an active member in the Apraxia Kids of Illinois Facebook group. My hope in joining this directory is to widen my collaborative network with other professionals and caregivers.
Parents attend treatment sessions and actively participate through turn taking exchanges. Currently, I am coaching parents in providing Parameter PROMPTs via teletherapy.
I am trained in implementing Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) and often use this approach with clients needing more supports with initiating social communicative exchanges. In addition, I have attended school district 204 training in NOVAChat and Accent 700 speech generating device programming and instruction. When appropriate, I have utilized sign language, natural gestures, and visuals for augmenting speech.
