My therapy for each client is individualized to them. I incorporate their strengths and interests to make therapy motivating and fun. I use evidence-based strategies that include the principles of motor learning and multisensory cues to target functional and meaningful communication.
Parent participation is strongly encouraged, with strategies for home-programming modeled and demonstrated. I work with families to create powerful target words for treatment that are meaningful and functional for the client.
The use of AAC can be very beneficial for children with CAS. It allows the child to communicate their needs, wants, and ideas while decreasing frustration, and continuing to focus therapy on targeting motor sequencing for speech. I have experience implementing both low-tech (communication boards/booklets) and high-tech (speech generating device) AAC with children with a variety of communication needs.
