What is most important for us is that your child’s therapy is customized to his/her needs! Every therapy plan is built from scratch. We always start with a free initial consultation to get to know your child. Then we do an evaluation if that is needed. From the evaluation, we select the most optimal goals and treatment techniques for your child. All our interventions include a multi-sensory approach. For example, that could mean touching your child’s face to help him/her do the sounds, using gestures or pictures to represent sounds, or playing the drum to tap out syllables. All interventions are embedded in activities tailored to what your child likes, so that he/she is looking forward to the therapy sessions!
We use all cutting edge treatment programs that have been shown to be effective for kids with Apraxia of Speech such as dynamic temporal and tactile cueing (DTTC), Rapid Syllable Transition Training (ReST).
I participated in the Apraxia Intensive Training Institute (Boot Camp). I also teach other providers (ABA teams, OT's) about CAS and network with other SLPs specialists in CAS. I am an active member of the Facebook group Apraxia Kids Southern and Apraxia Kids Bootcamp Graduates.
Parents are an integral part of our therapy sessions. We ask parents observe their child's therapy sessions. During the therapy sessions, we teach parents how to implement some of the techniques we use. We provide target words to practice at home
We have several AAC systems available at Speech Point for trial as needed. We use low tech and high tech AAC systems to support functional communication as we are working on improving pronunciation.
