The principal treatment approach I use is PROMPT therapy. I also include elements from other approaches (ex., Hanen, AAC) as needed. I try to build a strong relationship with my patient to develop trust and make each session as fun as possible to facilitate learning.
I am fairly new to the Apraxia Kids community, but I have had the chance to learn from and to collaborate with some of its members. I am hoping to follow in their footsteps and help translate and adapt the existing materiel to make it more available to French speaking communities as well as developing new tools for SLPs and parents alike. I also wish to help parents and children connect with other families who experience similar roadblocks to give them more support through their journey.
Parents generally are in the room during the session. They are encouraged to participate in some of the activities to help them understand what we are working on, to motivate the child or to help achieve some goals. They also ensure practice of the targeted words or phrases at home and help identify functional targets for their child.
