I follow the ‘Let’s Start Talking’ and ‘Let’s Talk Clearly’ programs developed by Dr. Megan Hodge at the University of Alberta. Both provide a framework for assessment and treatment of children with severe speech delay and suspected motor learning disabilities but are tailored to the specific needs of each child and family.
Completed the Apraxia Kids Intensive Training – ‘Apraxia Boot Camp’ in 2014; Instructor for the Apraxia Kids Advanced Training in Alberta, Canada in October/November 2018; Mentored and assisted in the training of 17 SLPs in the ‘Let’s Start Talking’ and ‘Let’s Talk Clearly’ programs since 2010; Instructor for the Apraxia Kids Advanced Training Boot Camp in 2020/21.
Parents/caregivers are an integral part of the intervention team. I schedule time for parent-only sessions to discuss various topics including information about CAS, treatment goals, progress and home practice strategies/ideas. Parents participate in every treatment session and complete regular home practice.
