My name is Delene Sullivan, and I am a mom with a child diagnosed with apraxia of speech. I have been spreading awareness for the past three years during Apraxia Awareness Month.
The first year, I simply asked family and friends to where blue and use the hashtag #blueforbriar. Last year I purchased bracelets with one side saying Apraxia of Speech Awareness, and the other side with the #blueforbriar.
Well, it’s working – the awareness and information is getting out. A family member was asked about what his bracelet said, and he [my family member] started to explain Apraxia. This led me to think of something bigger this year. Because this family member runs everyday, he asked if there was something we can create that’s bigger than the bracelet. Why not shirts?
The more people know about it, the less likely kids with apraxia to be bullied.
I created this original design for shirts and sweatshirts on Bonfire and sell them online.
