My son Toni has been in speech therapy since he was 3 years old. He got an official diagnosis at the age of 5. The years between age 3 and 5 were our hardest. Not understanding my own child and sitting in the first row to watch this little sparkle dim almost broke me. He couldn’t make any friends and other children were bullying him. Running him to therapies while others went to the playground became our normal life.

Although Toni was the most patient kid, he had meltdowns on a regular basis. We were lucky to receive several intense speech therapies with Germany’s top specialist and he finally made progress. He was also suffering from long- and short-term memory losses. At the age of 7 other people finally could understand (something of) what he was saying. He attends a special school for children with hearing issues. He is 13 years old now and everyone can understand him. He has lots of other issues, but time will tell.

I am so proud of him. He‘s a hardworking and determined child. Most of all – he is so kind and polite. He is sensitive and strong.

Our message of hope: You will get this! Your child will get this! I found hope when I came across Apraxia Kids. This journey is long. It’s hard. It’s lonely. But one day you will look back and realize how far you have come. When you find yourself in a dark place, reach out and there is always someone to listen. We are in this together.

Be proud of your child. Be proud of yourself. And never lose hope.
