Testimonials of HOPE
Every family’s journey with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is unique, yet no one should have to navigate it alone.
The Find Hope, Give Hope series celebrates the voices of parents, caregivers, individuals with CAS, speech-language pathologists, students, researchers, and advocates whose lives have been touched by Apraxia Kids. Their stories remind us that while the path may be filled with challenges, it is also filled with perseverance, progress, community, and hope.
Together, we are creating awareness, inspiring acceptance, and helping every child find their voice. These are the stories from some of our Apraxia Kids Ambassadors:

When our son, Ethan, was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech in 2012, he was only two and a half. We were overwhelmed and unsure where to begin. Then we found the Walk for Apraxia—and with it, a community that understood.
That first walk changed everything. We saw families just like ours, kids working so hard to be heard, and a network of people ready to support one another. Fourteen years later, the walk is still one of our favorite days of the year. Watching the kids proudly receive their medals never stops being emotional.
Over the years, the Apraxia Kids Facebook page has guided us through challenges and celebrated victories with us. Sharing their free printable resources with Ethan’s school has helped his teachers better understand how to support him. In addition, we love the merchandise from Apraxia Kids and wear it proudly. We are always ready to explain what Apraxia is and why awareness matters.
In our home, we are Speaking Up for Ethan and all those individuals fighting to find their voice in this world. We are truly grateful to Apraxia Kids for walking this journey with us and always cheering on our Ethan.

In June of 2023, our daughter was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech—a term we had never heard before. Overnight, we were thrown into uncertainty, searching for answers and trying to understand what this journey would look like for our family.
Then, I found Apraxia Kids, and everything began to change. I learned about the Walk for Apraxia, reached out to get involved, and that same year became the Cleveland Walk co-coordinator. In 2024, 2025, and now again in 2026, I’ve had the honor of serving as the head walk coordinator. What began as a search for support quickly became a passion and a purpose.
I attended my first Apraxia Kids National Conference in 2023 and it was truly life-changing. For the first time, we were surrounded by people who truly understood, families on the same path, experts who gave us knowledge, and a community that replaced fear with hope. On the flight home, my husband said, “Chel, we found our people,” and I remember tearing up and feeling full of hope and excitement. From that moment on, we promised we would never miss another conference.
Since then, we’ve met incredible families, advocates, and professionals who have become part of our story. This isn’t a journey we would have chosen, but it’s one that has given us purpose and a community we are endlessly grateful for.
Over the past three years, Delaney has made incredible progress, and we couldn’t be more proud. She now participates in seven therapy sessions each week, both in person and virtual, a true reflection of her strength and determination.
Apraxia Awareness Month holds a special place in our hearts. We wear blue, share resources, and create goodie bags with fun blue themed items and educational materials from Apraxia Kids to help spread awareness in meaningful ways.

It’s hard just picking just one thing that I love about Apraxia Kids!
First thing is how everyone makes you feel like a family – no one is alone in this journey. Second thing I LOVE is using the classroom kits to help spread apraxia awareness throughout Josie’s classroom and school. We love making blue bags for her classmates.

When you are expecting a baby, you never think to pray that your child will have the gift of speech. You just assume it will come. When people noticed Ford wasn’t talking, the response was always the same — don’t stress, he’ll talk. But something told me this was different. This was not just a delay. Ford started speech therapy at 18 months old, and we are still very much in the thick of it — navigating therapies, school IEPs, and an advocacy role that never clocks out. Finding Apraxia Kids gave me resources, community, and a place where I didn’t have to explain myself to be understood. Participating in the Houston Apraxia Walk was one of those moments I will never forget — seeing how far so many kids had come gave me a hope for Ford’s future that I carry with me on the hardest days. We are not alone in this, and that matters more than I can say.

When I was first diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) at 2.5 years old, my world was filled with many different emotions of frustration and confusion. It was a long journey, marked by years of hard work in speech therapy, to get to where I am today. Apraxia Kids serves as a community and a platform for me to share my story and use my voice to advocate for others. I’ve spoken publicly about my journey and have embraced every opportunity to advocate for others in similar situations to the ones I was in a few years ago. By providing a space to hear everyone’s stories, each offering a powerful, real, emotional journey from other families who were walking the same path, Apraxia Kids isn’t just helpful, but transformational. It empowers, educates, and connects. For anyone navigating CAS, Apraxia Kids is a true partner on the journey, reminding you that your voice matters and your story is worth telling.
Thank you to everyone who shared their Find Hope, Give Hope story. Your willingness to open your heart, celebrate your successes, and speak honestly about your challenges is helping families around the world feel connected, supported, and understood.
Together, we can continue to build a community where every child has the opportunity to communicate, connect, and be heard.
