Testimonials of HOPE

Many people contact Apraxia Kids on a regular basis to share their stories of struggles, accomplishments, or a brief glimpse into their apraxia journey.  Below are some testimonials of HOPE submitted by community members. We appreciate these individuals sharing their brief, but powerful messages.

We promise – you will be inspired!

“My daughter Grace was diagnosed with apraxia at age 3 in 2018. We started speech therapy in 2018 and are still going today.  When she started speech [therapy], no one was able to understand what she was saying. It made her very frustrated, but she works hard every day and now she still has problems with some people understanding what she has to say but it is a lot better. She sees a difference in herself. She doesn’t give up, she keeps trying. Apraxia Kids has shown her that other kids have the same problem that she does, and they can overcome it. It gives her a lot of hope and pride. Thank you for all that you do!”  ~Jillian, USA

“Alex is our Star. He works hard to make sure his message is heard. Alex received speech therapy as a 3-year-old and was not diagnosed with CAS at the time, and the speech therapy did not work. I listened to my mama gut and brought him to a different SLP who suspected CAS and completely changed how he was treated – and in short, it’s been a complete 180. Once he started to get the right treatment for his needs he started making tremendous gains. I am a fierce advocate for making sure kids like Alex get the right treatment so that they do not go years lacking improvement”. ~Lisa, Minnesota, USA

“Lily was diagnosed at age 2.5 by Dave Hammer with severe apraxia. She started kindergarten with a Dynavox [AAC Device].  Fast forward to years of school based and private therapy. Lily is now a 16-year-old Junior in high school and attends our county wide vocational school for Cosmetology. She’s active in Students for Charity. She is president of Women’s Club and leads each meeting with power point presentation. Her apraxia is not resolved but she balances it all. She even works on making phone calls at speech therapy at school so she can be set to work at a salon! She currently works at a local hair salon as an assistant. Apraxia has never stopped her determination or success! But, definitely made her a hard worker!” ~Sarah, USA

“Azriel had apraxia since he was small, but we were not aware he did until in pre-k when he received a speech evaluation. We are music lovers – his dad loves to sing and we love musicals. His grandma decided he will benefit from music/voice classes. Now, he is 10 and just sang in front of other Apraxia Stars at the 2024 Walk for Apraxia.” ~Jacqueline, USA

“When I was two years old, I was diagnosed with apraxia. I worked hard over the next three years and had speech therapy four times weekly. At the age of five, I started to speak. Having trouble speaking at a young age put me behind in reading. By 7th grade, I had caught up with the kids in my class and even exceeded some. This accomplishment was only possible with a growth mindset and hard work.” ~William, North Carolina, USA
