Describe treatment approach used: I utilize a wide variety of behavioral strategies including prompt hierarchies, fading, shaping, reinforcement, pacing, etc. I focus on syllable shapes and using successive approximations. My goal is to increase functional and meaningful communication so I try find the balance between discrete trials of specific syllable shapes and words that are functional in a kids everyday life. I utilize structured practice as well as the opportunity to practice those same targets during play or in a more natural situation.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents are involved from the initial evaluation. When possible, I include parents during therapy sessions. . I think the intensity and type of parent involvement is dependent on the child and the parent. I also like to give the parents ideas for specific times of the day that may elicit certain target words or sounds. I think by giving parents more direction and more specific examples of how and went to practice sounds, they are more inclined to do so.
