Describe treatment approach used: I use a multi-sensory approach to treatment throughout play based therapy sessions providing visual and tactile cues as appropriate for each child and fading them as soon as quickly as possible. I collaborate with parents to encourage and facilitate effective and fun home programs. I explore AAC options for children who are unintelligible.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: Parents attend a portion of each therapy session, often attending the entire session when possible. Parents are coached during the session and are in constant collaboration with me in helping choose appropriate and meaningful target words and home activities to decrease frustration and stress for each family. I teach parents specific signs early on in treatment so that their child can communicate effectively until they are better able to verbally communicate.

Describe your past and current involvement in the Apraxia community? Living in a rural area, I haven't had the opportunity to take part in the apraxia walk because the closest walk to us is several hours away. I have connected families with one another so that they can better support each other. Families have given me permission to provide their names/numbers/email addresses and I am able to connect families who are new to this diagnosis to others who have also been diagnosed and have been through some treatment. Families have let me know that this is helpful and encouraging. I always refer parents to and I share Facebook groups with parents to have another way to connect with other families.
