Describe treatment approach used: My treatment approach will depend upon the severity of the child's apraxia and the individual needs of the child and family. I always incorporate principles of motor planning with intensive and individualized treatment, with a recommended 3-5 sessions a week. Specifically, I use multiple repetitive production practice at each session (mass for acquisition, and distributed for generalization). I utilize a "moving-across-syllables" approach specific to the child's level of mastery (constant for acquisition and variable for transfer of skills). I always incorporate multiple-sensory input, as well, such as Integral Stimulation approach, tactile feedback, and visual cueing, as well. I have also used prosodic therapy techniques (i.e., Melodic Intonation Therapy), which has proven to be effective with some of my clients.

Describe parent/caregiver involvement: First of all, I try to educate parents about CAS and about the importance of increased frequency and intensity of intervention. Once I gauge that the child has mastered a task to a certain degree, I give specific homework for parents for improved carryover of learned skills. I will often have them come in on sessions, if the child tolerates, to learn cueing techniques that will be helpful at home. I also always allow at least 5 minutes at the end of each of my sessions for a consultation time to answer any questions that parents may have.
