In therapy for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), I focus on helping your child learn how to plan and produce the movements of speech comfortably and confidently. I take a holistic, whole-child approach that supports your child’s unique strengths and needs. My sessions are grounded in evidence-based practices and informed by the latest research, and I stay committed to ongoing training to provide the highest quality care. I use principles of motor learning to support meaningful, lasting progress. I also welcome all forms of communication, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), to ensure your child always has a way to express themselves. Above all, my care is neurodiversity-affirming, with a strong focus on helping your child feel accepted, understood, and empowered.
Caregiver involvement is crucial for generalization of skills. It is important to me that caregivers are present during sessions to observe the cueing strategies I incorporate, understand the reasoning for/against certain practices, and learn how to help their child practice at home throughout the week without feeling overwhelmed.
AAC, whether high-tech like speech-generating devices or low-tech like picture boards, can support children with CAS by giving them a reliable way to express themselves in collaboration with spoken speech. I incorporate AAC differently for each child, based on child/family needs. My goal with AAC (and speech therapy as a whole) is to reduce frustration, support language development, and ensure your child's ideas are heard.
