At Clear Path Pediatric Therapy, treatment for Childhood Apraxia of Speech focuses on practicing specific speech movements through repetition of fun, meaningful words for your child and your family. Target words are specifically chosen with the child's interests and family in mind, which we work together with you to carefully select. We implement proven methods of treatment, such as Dynamic Tactile and Temporal Cueing (DTTC) to help your child effectively learn movement for speech. We provide as much support at first (such as auditory, visual and/or tactile cues), and gradually reduce that support as your child gains the skills and confidence. We intentionally select a small number of words to work on a time, building success and progress over time. We pride ourselves in being about to help your child speak more clearly and confidently, not only at our clinic, but also at home, school, and with family and friends.
Parents and caregivers play such a huge role in progress! We will teach you how to support your child's speech at home and out in the community. We will work with you to celebrate wins, big and small. We will keep you informed about your child's goals and growth and work with you to determine what specific challenges you are noticing, so that we can select specific targets to work on that will be the most functional for your child. We provide parent/caregiver coaching and ensure that you have the tools necessary to continue to carry over skills at home. Our clinic is designed to encourage parent/caregiver involvement by having large treatment rooms that can hold extra people, but we also have 1 way mirrors in our treatment rooms so that parents can also watch without needing to be in the room, if that fits best for your child. We are here to help your child find their voice and use it with confidence every day.
Our clinic focuses on total communication. We have AAC boards, sentence strips, and push buttons all throughout our clinic to encourage total communication. We implement AAC early and in conjunction with speech sound production to ensure your child is exposed to total communication to be able to communicate effectively. We work with families to introduce AAC and apply for AAC devices through grant programs and insurance companies. We have numerous high tech AAC devices available for trial at the clinic. Our therapists all each have their own device so when modeling the use of AAC, we don't need to model on the child's own device. That is for their voice only.
