At Taylor Nizich Speech Therapy PLLC, I help children who have a diagnosis—or suspected diagnosis—of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) learn to communicate more clearly and confidently. CAS is a motor-speech disorder in which children know what they want to say but have difficulty planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech.
My approach is warm, play-based, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I begin with a child-friendly evaluation that looks at how your child produces sounds, transitions between syllables, and uses stress patterns—key areas recommended by ASHA for identifying CAS. From there, I create individualized goals that focus on meaningful, functional words your child can use every day.
Therapy for CAS is most effective when it is frequent, intensive, and highly structured, with lots of practice and repetition. I use motor-learning principles and proven CAS treatment strategies to help your child develop accurate movement sequences for speech—always woven into fun, motivating play. Families are an essential part of the process, so I provide simple, practical home activities to help build consistency and carryover.
As your child grows, we continually monitor progress, celebrate gains, adjust targets, and support generalization so skills transfer to home, school, and the community.
With nearly 10 years of pediatric experience, a specialty in CAS, autism, early intervention, AAC, and bilingual (English/Spanish) support, I’m here to partner with your family and help your child’s voice shine.
Collaborative goal-setting with you and your child’s family- Because each child with CAS presents uniquely, we’ll work together to set goals that feel meaningful to your child—such as saying ‘momma’ clearly, using a 2-word phrase, or being understood by a familiar listener. We’ll discuss how these goals tie into everyday life activities (e.g., playtime, snack time, story time) so that therapy becomes functional and fun. Family-centered support, home practice & bilingual options You play a crucial role in your child’s progress. I’ll provide you with easy-to-use practice ideas you can incorporate at home (short, fun, consistent bursts of practice are more effective than long, occasional ones) and together we’ll monitor progress and adjust targets as needed. For clients who are bilingual (English/Spanish), we’ll make sure therapy reflects both languages and we’ll collaborate on how home practice can work in both languages if appropriate. Because CAS therapy often involves changing and adapting as the child learns, we’ll track data together, celebrate growth, and shift goals when ready
At Taylor Nizich Speech Therapy PLLC, I believe every child deserves a dependable way to communicate—not just as their speech develops, but right now. For children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), I use a total communication approach, meaning I support and teach all forms of communication that help your child express themselves confidently: spoken words, gestures, signs, picture supports, and both low-tech and high-tech AAC. Low-tech tools like core boards, picture symbols, and visual supports allow children to communicate quickly and naturally during play and daily routines. High-tech AAC, including iPad-based apps and dedicated speech-generating devices, provides a voice your child can rely on while we build speech-motor skills—helping them participate, reduce frustration, and grow their language skills. AAC never replaces or slows down speech; research consistently shows it can strengthen language and support clearer speech development for children with CAS. I model AAC in every session, teach families how to use it with confidence, and tailor systems to match each child’s abilities, interests, and home routines. My goal is simple: to ensure your child always has a way to be understood while we work together to build accurate, confident, and joyful communication in every form.
