Therapy with me is structured but playful, always tailored to meet your child exactly where they are. Whether your child is just learning to use their voice or working on combining sounds into words and phrases, we build from their current strengths. My treatment protocol incorporates the principles of motor learning to support lasting improvement in speech. Therapy emphasizes speech movements and syllable shapes, uses cues and prompts, addresses prosody, and provides the right kind of feedback to help your child grow confident and successful in their communication. I focus on functional, meaningful speech targets that matter in your child’s world. Specific approaches I draw from include DTTC, PROMPT, Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol, and play-based models like DIR/Floortime. We might use bubbles, cars, pretend food, board games, or whatever your child is currently interested in. I believe when therapy feels fun, kids are more willing to work hard. Even though it may look like play, every moment is intentionally structured to support the motor planning and practice that children with CAS need.
Parents are an essential part of the therapy process. From the start, I work closely with you to understand how your child communicates at home and to make sure therapy connects to real life. After speech sessions, I’ll share what we worked on and show simple ways to support speech during everyday routines like snack time, getting dressed, or play. Parents are always welcome (and encouraged) to share updates and ask questions. My goal is for parents to feel supported, confident and involved in their child's speech therapy journey.
I use both low-tech AAC (like picture boards or core word visuals) and high-tech options (like speech-generating apps on an iPad such as Proloquo2go or TouchChat) to support children with CAS as they build speech. AAC helps reduce frustration and encourages communication, giving children a voice while speech develops. AAC is always personalized to your child’s needs and introduced in a way that feels natural and supportive, not as a replacement for speech, but as a bridge to help them connect and be understood.
