Hello! My therapy process for CAS consists of first finding out what activities your child enjoys and then carefully picking target words that allow your child to engage with their favorite activities as well as communicate across a variety of functions (requesting, protesting, commenting, describing, sharing information, expressing emotions, etc.). My clinical style has been described as warm, bubbly, and upbeat. I follow the child's lead and am well versed in motor learning principles for consistent and accurate speech movements. My therapy toolbox shifts with your child as they grow and learn so they are thoughtfully engaged.
Parents play an important role in my therapy process. Parents frequently join sessions to see what cues are most helpful for their child and to carryover the cueing at home. Target words are given to parents to practice at home, and regular collaboration and parent coaching elements are thoughtfully incorporated.
I often use low and high tech AAC for children with CAS. I always incorporate gestures and sign language into my sessions and depending on the child, have access to high tech AAC apps like Proloquo2Go, LAMP, TouchChat, and GoTalkNow on my iPad. Picture boards, books, and cards are also always available for me model with as well.
