In order to provide the most effective treatment, I include families to help with generating a list of target words including words of importance and core/power words. It is important to target prosody early and the goal of therapy is movement. There are different cues used in therapy - including visual speech sound cue cards, tactile and auditory cues. We will start with simultaneous production, then direct imitation, and then delayed imitation. Once the child is successful at the imitative level with the target, then we can spontaneously produce the target within words and build from there. We will add more and more target words as the child masters the movement of the words.
The owner of the private practice that I work at is a speaker throughout the country about CAS.
Parents are invited into the therapy room. Thorough home recommendations provided as well as given more information and handouts as needed. Discussion with parents at the end of each session
I am familiar with a variety of AAC devices. The following are the most familiar to me: PECS, TouchChat, and LAMP
