My style of therapy incorporates a variety of multisensory cueing (verbal, visual, tactile) within highly motivating activities for the child with encouragement and prompting. I incorporate the principles of motor learning to target motor speech patterns via a hybrid approach utilizing my knowledge and training of a multisensory approach, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), tactile cues from my PROMPT training, and progressive approximation and shaping techniques (Kaufman Speech to Language).
As an Apraxia Kids boot camp graduate, I have the wonderful opportunity to connect regularly with speech language pathologists that share my desire to help young children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. I have attended and presented at Apraxia Kids national conferences, supported our local apraxia walk, and presented on Childhood Apraxia of Speech to early intervention providers and service coordinators.
The last 5-10 minutes of each session is focused on providing parents with daily homework that ideally can be incorporated into the child’s daily routines and activities. Incorporating parents in sessions and family carryover of suggested tasks and “homework” facilitates progress and successful generalization of skills.
