My speech therapy for a child with CAS is truly at the heart of what I do and why I created my practice, Easy Peasy Speech LLC. I got interested in becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist after babysitting a child with CAS and seeing the difficulties both her and her family experienced. Because of that, I can genuinely say that not a day of my education, training, or practice has gone by that children with CAS were not at the focus of my studies and decisions. I believe that it is crucial to look at the whole child and create a plan of care that is individualized to them, with functional goals in mind. No two CAS sessions of mine will look the same, because no two children I work with are the same. Parents can rest assured that with Easy Peasy Speech, they are truly getting speech therapy that is made for their child to help boost not just their speech abilities but their confidence too!
I strive to make goals functional for your child's every day life. The truth is, your child spends the majority of their time with you! This means that it’s so important to have you involved in the speech therapy journey with your child. However, my goal is not to add a laundry list of “homework” for you and your child to do at home. Your days are busy already. Navigating CAS can feel overwhelming, so my job is to make your child’s CAS journey feel EASIER- which is why I named my practice Easy Peasy Speech. I want to take the guesswork out of it and provide you as the parent with clarity as to why we’re working on certain words or sounds and how you can easily get some quick but effective practice in at home during every day routines. I love when parents provide me lists of words that are the most meaningful to their child, such as pets’ names, siblings nicknames, favorite snacks, etc.
AAC comes in many forms and can be a real asset to you and your child during their CAS journey. I have incorporated low-tech AAC for some families, and have even created some customized printable CORE boards for a child’s upcoming field trip or one that they kept at Grandma’s house for snack time to help lessen the frustration when the child wasn’t understood and his mom was not there to interpret. I also have implemented high-tech AAC devices for some families, including LAMP and TD Snap. I have found trials of devices have been incredibly helpful to find the right app or the right type of AAC for each child and see how they respond to it. It’s been incredible to see the way AAC (both low- and high-tech) can provide a confidence boost for children struggling to express themselves.
