I value child-led and neurodiversity-affirming therapy while incorporating caregivers as active participants in speech-language therapy for children with childhood apraxia of speech. I work with the family and child to develop word targets based on the child's interests while utilizing evidence-supported strategies including repetition and multi-sensory cuing. Additionally, I have expertise in augmentative-alternative communication (AAC) in order to assist children with severe CAS in accessing communication as we work together to build verbal skills.
My organization has 4 SLPs trained in CAS. We use strategies including Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), Rapid Syllable Transition Treatment (ReST), Speech Motor Chaining, and ultrasound visual biofeedback.
I utilize parent/caregiver coaching as a primary part of all therapy sessions. Each speech therapy session follows the structure of teach-model-coach-review, during which parents learn how to support their child outside of each therapy session by receiving instruction and feedback from me.
I have expertise in evaluation, programming, and treatment using high-tech AAC devices including iPads/tablets or dedicated devices with TouchChat, LAMP Words for Life, and TD Snap. My organization is a participating vendor in California's Voice Options grant program which provides no-cost AAC devices to Californians with difficulty communicating verbally.
