I aim for therapy to be fun, motivating, and always built around what your child enjoys most! I focus on using Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC), where we start by saying words together so your child can watch my mouth and learn how to move their own. As they improve, I gradually step back so they can say words more on their own. DTTC can feel structured and repetitive, and takes focus and effort as we create new motor plans for speech. My goal is to empower your child to tackle a tough challenge with lots of practice and encouragement. Each session is supportive, positive, and focused on helping your child build confidence in their own voice.
Parent involvement is a key part of my therapy approach! Parents are always welcome to join speech sessions and are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s progress. I provide ongoing parent consultation and education about Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) to help families understand how to best support communication at home and school. For children who use AAC, I guide parents through editing and personalizing pagesets to include meaningful, everyday vocabulary. At the end of every session, parents receive an update on what was practiced and how to continue building on those skills at home. Together, we work as a team to ensure that target words practiced in therapy carry over into daily routines and everyday communication.
I have extensive experience supporting children with a wide range of communication needs using both low-tech and high-tech AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems. I’ve worked with early learners using personalized low-tech communication boards to get basic needs met, as well as complex communicators who benefit from switches or eye gaze devices. For children with CAS, I’m familiar with a variety of high-tech speech generating devices (SGDs), including programs such as TouchChat and Tobii Dynavox. I regularly conduct AAC evaluations and trial different pagesets and devices to find the best match for each child’s unique strengths, access methods, and communication goals. My goal is always to help children find a reliable and empowering way to express themselves and connect with others.
