As a Speech-Language Pathologist, my therapy for a child with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) focuses on helping them coordinate and plan the movements needed for clear speech. Since CAS affects a child’s ability to move their mouth in the right way to make speech sounds, we practice small, simple words that are important for them to communicate. We use a lot of visual and tactile cues (like showing them how to move their mouth or tapping on their face to help them feel where to place their lips or tongue) to help them learn the right speech movements. Therapy is very interactive and repetitive—we practice many times in each session to help strengthen those speech muscles and make speech easier over time. Each child’s therapy is personalized to fit their specific needs, and we work together to make their speech clearer and more consistent. Dynamic sessions using DTTC approach to childhood apraxia of speech, with PROMPT as a tactile cueing approach. I work with children through their interests and play. Parents are welcome to enter sessions.
