I collaborate with the family to choose functional goals. Then, I help the family choose specific sounds and meaningful words that can be used at home, daycare, and school. My therapy sessions are fun and used to connect with the child in a variety of ways through play, people games, arts and crafts, books, puzzles, gross motor activities etc. I try to match the therapy approach to the child's specific and current needs including: Pam Marshalla's "Becoming Verbal with Childhood Apraxia of Speech", Hanen "It Takes Two to Talk" or "Target Word", PROMPT therapy, Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP), AAC, Dynamic Temporal and Tactile Cueing (DTTC)
Parents are involved in every step of the way from choosing targets, to support in sessions to helping to generalize goals to child's daily life context (ex: home, daycare, school).
While working on speech, I have often supported the use of gestures, communication books and iPad apps to help the child be as communicative as possible.
