Overall Treatment Approach:
My treatment for kids with CAS includes the principles of motor learning and most closely resembles the DTTC approach. All therapy is very family driven in that they help set goals, choose goal words, and find home programming that works best with their life. I include multi-sensory cueing when appropriate/necessary. I focus on functional words and phrases and provide high frequency therapy when possible through the school system.

Percent of CAS cases: 5

Parent Involvement:
Parents are heavily involved in all aspects of therapy from the initial consideration of CAS all the way through treatment. I team up with parents to complete thorough assessments, case histories, and observations of the child in multiple settings. Parents are key in generating meaningful goal words and phrases for therapy. Parents also learn about CAS and are responsible for frequent home programming

Community Involvement:
I have worked with other speech pathologists in Alberta Health Services who have trained in the Dr. Hodge's LST program and learned how to provide therapy based on her techniques. In November, I completed the Apraxia Kids intensive training in Edmonton AB. After completion, we were designated as mentors for the rest of Alberta Health Services to provide consultation and support for any CAS related questions. I also participate in the Alberta CAS community of practice and the Advanced CAS COP with other members of AHS who completed the intensive training.
