It is hard to believe that my journey with Apraxia Kids began just a little over a year ago. As I reflect on this last year, the word that keeps coming to my mind is “thankful”. I am thankful for so many things but most of all, I am thankful for each and every one of you that welcomed me into your community and who make a difference each and every day for our organization.
2018 also brought many changes to Apraxia Kids, but I prefer to call them opportunities, which were all designed to push our organization forward so that we can help more families on their journey. Some highlights include:
- This past Spring we updated our brand, including a new logo, and made lots of new materials available.
- We launched our new Volunteer Outreach Program, designed to engage local communities. We look forward to training our outreach coordinators this December in Pittsburgh!
- Our National Conference in Charlotte was the highlight to our summer bringing together nearly 370 parents and professionals to learn from our outstanding speakers and from each other.
- Our SLP Directory has over 400 members and continues to grow, ensuring families are able to seek a specialist in their area.
We are excited to be launching a new website and webinar platform in early 2019.
We remain committed to providing evidence-based information through our core programs, supporting our families and professional community along with spreading awareness of our organization and the services we provide to those impacted by CAS.
Although we have made tremendous strides in the past year, we know there is still so much work to be done. We know that we are only serving a fraction of the families of children who are diagnosed with apraxia of speech each year. It is our shared vision that we elevate our cause by serving more families in 2019.
On behalf of myself and our entire staff, thank you for your continued support of our mission.
